The other day, while looking at the up-to-date information on Hurricanes Irma, Jose, and Katia, I noticed an eerie similarity. Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” looked like the satellite images of the three hurricanes. I combined the two images and was informed by reddit user My_baby_is_a_potatoe that if you rotate “Starry Night” 180 degrees even the land masses look like the satellite images!
It turns out the relationship between fluids and “Starry Night” have been previously noticed. Maria Popova of BrainPicker (@brainpicker) investigated the link between Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night and fluid dynamics in her 2014 article The Fluid Dynamics of “Starry Night”.
